You are a blessing exactly as you are. You are absolutely special and talented in ways no one else is. It may be in the way you smile, the way you encourage yourself and others, or in the way you make a PB&J sandwich! Thank you for being on this earth. Know that you are valuable and valued for being you.
Sometimes, we can try to learn something new. The results don’t have to be perfect. It’s in the trying that is the good stuff.
I have a neighbor who can sew beautifully. Another neighbor has fantastic flowers. A nearby family has five beautiful children. One multigenerational family works together on their farms. And there is the neighbor who always waves when driving past our house.
Each individual enriches life. The neighbors and friends have different opinions and ideas.
At the same time, they can listen the thoughts of others with respect and dignity. Face to face conversations standing near a pickup are a common method of communication. Being able to talk together is a huge blessing.
Back to trying something that is hard and new . . . and may not turn out to be great: That’s okay! It doesn’t need to be anything extra-special. You and me and all of us; each one is good being themselves.
I have been trying to learn to knit and to purl a little bit. This lumpy looking knit dishrag is crooked and carefree. But it makes me happy to know I made it.
I thought about the old story Stone Soup. Would that story be the same today? What kinds of veggies would the townsfolk bring to add to the soup?
What stories do you tell in your own family? Do you have a funny story that everyone enjoys? A wise story?
I scratched out a story a couple of years ago, just for fun. The characters in the family remind me of how hard people work together every day to take care of each other.
When I reread this story in 2021, I “rewrote” the story in my own head. I substituted different jobs, different parents, different children, different homes, different places, different times and different pets.
Perhaps think of a story you enjoy and change the characters or the place and time. How would the story change?
Miraculous Mommy in the Morning
Celestia Delice lives in her most favorite house in the world with her darling husband and their three magnificent daughters.
Simply put, Celestia is miraculous in the morning. Here is what she does every day for her husband Jim, Kalia the oldest daughter, Gardenia the middle daughter, and Kassiopoeia the youngest daughter.
Celestia gets up the very first in the morning, helps everyone wake up, and gets five people and one goldfish ready for the day:
1.) Celestia 2.) Husband Jim 3.) Kalia the oldest daughter 4.) Gardenia the middle daughter 5.) Kassiopoeia the youngest daughter 6.) Cedric the goldfish
2. Celestia jumps out of bed, showers and gets dressed. She always looks beautiful and ready for her other work at home, as well as her work away from home.
3. She kisses her husband and pulls back the blanket so he will get right up and ready for work. He does not always look beautiful and ready for work when he first awakens. Just sometimes
5. Celestia kisses the eldest daughter awake. “Good morning, Sweetheart Kalia!”
Kalia sits up in bed, smiles at her spectacular mommy and stretches. “Good morning, Mommy!”
Kalia slides to the floor, finds her the fashionable outfit that she and her mother had put together the night before, and closes the door to her bathroom for her bath. She is excited to wear a smart beret to second grade today.
5. Celestia pats the second daughter sleeping in her top bunk bed, and whispers in her ear, “Good morning Darling. Kindergarten today.” (The bottom bunk bed is full of telescope parts, journals, pens, and stuffed animals. These important tools belong to Gardenia, the second daughter.)
Gardenia turns over, smiles at her marvelous mother and puts on her glasses. “Good morning, sweet Mommy!”
And she jumps right out of bed, and runs to her bathroom where the cute outfit her mommy helped her select the night before is ready and waiting. Fancy purple and white polka dot hair bows make her smile.
Celestia hears Gardenia turn on the shower, and begin humming a good morning song.
6. Kassiopoeia the youngest daughter is already standing at the door of her room. She hugs Celestia’s legs and smiles at her precious mommy. “I love you Mommy!” “I love you too, pumpkin!”
Celestia helps Kassiopoeia wash and dress for preschool. Today, Kassiopoeia chooses leggings, bloomers, a fancy sweater with a giant “K” on the back and a star on the front, and new shoes. She looks gorgeous. Mommy Celestia spritzes a touch of her best perfume on Kassiopoeia’s hand, and then on her own hand. They will think of each other when they smell the happy fragrance.
7. All ready for his work and now looking absolutely stunning, Jim is already sprinkling fish food into the aquarium that is home for Cedric the goldfish.
“Thank you, Sweetheart!” Celestia kisses Jim’s ear as she and Kassiopoeia walk into the kitchen.
It is 7:08 A.M. Ta-Dah! Early Early Today!
Celestia places whole grain bread slices into the toaster holes, and unscrews the lids from the almond butter and no sugar added strawberry jam.
Kassiopoeia opens the fridge and brings out the carton of almond milk. She is a strong preschool girl.
Gardenia comes into the kitchen and takes the basket of cuties to the breakfast bar. She
climbs upon her own stool and begins peeling cuties for the rest of the family.
Kalia opens the fridge and brings out the already prepared lunch bags that Celestia the fantastic mommy has already prepared. Hummus with a spreader, whole grain crackers, small sweet peppers, the best drinkable Greek yogurt with honey, and a cloth napkin are in each bag. Kalia also makes sure the water bottles for every person in the family are beside the lunch bags.
Kalia, Celestia the proud mommy, Jim the proud daddy, Gardenia and Kassiopoeia all sit on tall stools around the breakfast bar, munching almond buttered toasts and cuties, and drinking small glasses of almond milk.
It is 7:35 A.M.
“Scoot to your tooth brushing stations, everyone!” Celestia hurries and everyone else hurries as well. Except Cedric. He keeps swimming slowly around and around in his aquarium. That is his job.
Jim backs out the vehicle for the family’s trip to work and to school.
Gardenia, Kassiopoeia, and Kalia pile into the van. Jim and Celestia buckle and double check the child safety seats, making certain the seats are securely fastened, and the precious passengers are safely in place.
Jim climbs into the rider’s front seat and fastens his seat belt.
Celestia springs into the driver’s seat and fastens her seat belt.
Everyone in the family has her and his own lunch bag and water bottle.
Kalia has a purple back pack with a water bottle holder.
Gardenia has a zebra striped back pack, also with a water bottle holder.
Kassiopoeia has a chevron designed back pack with a clever water bottle holder.
Sometimes, the back packs make the morning ride a bit lumpy and awkward, but the three girls are patient and understanding. “Safety First!”, their marvelous mommy reminds them. She is correct.
Celestia has a lovely monogramed brief case, a gift from darling husband Jim and her darling daughters. She places her brief case in a safe riding place under the front seat.
Jim is an ophthalmologist. He stores most of his tools and machines at his office, so he does not often wear a back pack to work. First, Celestia drops Jim off at his office. He smiles and waves goodbye to his wonderful wife and charming daughters.
Next, Celestia drops Kassiopoeia off at the Sophia day care. Today, Ms. Gretchen is standing at the curb, waiting to collect Kassiopoeia and walk her into the Sophia Day Care building.
Wearing her back pack with the water bottle carrier, Kassiopoeia carries her lunch bag and waves goodbye to her magnificent mommy and her superb sisters.
At the next stop, Celestia drops off Gardenia and Kalia at the Marie Curie Elementary School. Each girl wears her own backpack and carries her own lunch bag. The crossing guard holds back traffic as Kalia and Gardenia step from their vehicle and head to the Marie Curie Elementary School. They wave good bye to their darling mommy. When Gardenia and Kalia are safely inside the Marie Curie Elementary Library entrance, Celestia waves goodbye to the crossing guard, and drives herself to her office.
It is 7:55 A.M.
Celestia parks her vehicle in the parking lot, remembers her lunch bag and her briefcase, her tech and her car fob. She listens for the car lock as she waves the fob at the door of her office. The door of the Delice Educational Research Laboratory opens slowly.
Celestia enters the office building, runs up the stairs to the fourth floor, and scans her pinky print at the door marked: C. Delice, Founder and CEO.
Brilliant, Beautiful, Thoughtful, Dedicated, and Kind. . .
Celestia Delice is not only miraculous in the morning. Celestia Delice is miraculous 24-7.
YAY You, Celestia Delice! It is 7:58. Brava, Celestia! This will be another glorious day!
