Recently, a wise friend asked two questions regarding this website common-woman.
Number one; who exactly is the audience, and number two; what exactly is the purpose?
These are real and valuable questions. After some thought and conversation, this much of an answer seems accurate.
*The purpose is to uplift and encourage.
*The audience is everyone.
Anyone who visits the site is the audience. Someone who is interested in varied and unpredictable topics. Individuals and groups interested in renewing the community and ability of discussion and thought. People okay with agreeing on opinions maybe 60%-80% of the time. People actively working, perhaps struggling to show respect for self and others 100% of the time. People searching for common ground, interesting ideas, new and renewed opportunities, and an appreciation for people, including themselves.
Certainly, the inspirations for common-woman come from thoughts and ideas from exceptional people. These folks are much wiser and brighter than is the writer of common-woman. The site simply offers a platform to share the wisdom of others.
Thanks to all who contribute. There is an open invitation to anyone who would like to share ideas and contributions. Thank you, friend. You make a positive difference in this world.

There’s a Hole in My Sidewalk
An Autobiography in 5 Short Chapters
by Portia Nelson
Chapter I
I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in.
I am lost…I am helpless.
It isn’t my fault.
It takes me forever to find a way out.
Chapter II
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don’t see it.
I fall in again.
I can’t believe I am in the same place.
But it isn’t my fault.
It still takes me a long time to get out.
Chapter III
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in…It’s a habit.
My eyes are open
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.
Chapter IV
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.
Chapter V
I walk down another street.
For you have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life. Psalm 56:13
