Night Before Christmas

Writer's picture: Carol SpanglerCarol Spangler

Growing up, our neighbors half a mile up the hill to the east were Cecil and Lizzie Schmitt.

They always had plenty of kittens to play with, strawberries in the summer, and Lizzie baked such good cookies!

When I was 4, a few days before Christmas, Cecil brought me a book from the two of them. It was Clement Clarke Moore’s “Night Before Christmas”.

On the cover, Santa’s hat was fuzzy. Florence Sarah Winship’s illustrations perfectly represented the idea of this Fairview, Kansas child’s Christmas.

For all of my life, this book and the church Christmas Eve program are important celebrations of Christmas. What are the traditions and activities that make Christmas memorable for you?

From common-woman to your house, best wishes for a blessed Christmas. Joy and peace to each and everyone.

Luke 2: 11-14 KJV

11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
