Special Apples With A Message To Share

Hey y’all,  Yesterday I picked beautiful red apples for a pie. When I peeled the apples, and sliced them open,  they were pink striped inside! It made me so happy! I felt like they were special apples with a special message to share.

It’s that idea again about how we are filled? What spills out of us? Love...Forgiveness...Joy... Encouragement...Care for others...Care for ourselves. What we have inside identifies us for who we are. How we treat ourselves and others comes from the inside. When those apples were nurtured by the rain and sun, they grew whole. As you nurture yourself, you also grow whole. Give yourself permission to experience joy. Love yourself. Enjoy restful sleep. Eat delicious, nutritious food. Have fun with your family and friends. Notice and appreciate beauty in nature. Take a walk. Jump start your imagination by doing nothing for 5 minutes. Laugh. Be grateful. Appreciate yourself as God's child. Breathe. Know you are loved.

Give yourself permission to experience joy.

Back to the subject of apples! There are sliced apples dipped in honey, warm applesauce sprinkled with cinnamon, baked apples sprinkled with cheese, apple pie, apple crisp, dried apples, apple strudel. . . What is your favorite way to enjoy apples?

Here is an apple pie recipe from our wonderful neighbor Dorothy.  She loved everybody and was loved by all. She baked some of the best food in the world. Gratefulness to Dorothy for sharing her recipe for apple pie.

Good Apple Pie by Dorothy

You will need 2 crusts: a top and bottom for a 9 inch pie.

5 C. apples, peeled, cored & sliced                   ¼ tsp salt               3 T. butter

1¼ C. sugar           2/3 C. water

2 level T. flour         Cinnamon to taste

In the bottom of the crust-lined pie pan, pour in the prepared apples. Press them down. Next, mix sugar, salt and flour. Put over the apples in the pie pan. Pour water over the apples and sugar mixture. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Cut butter into small pieces and place on top of the apple mixture. Put on top crust. Seal the edges of the top and bottom crusts by pressing them together. Make small slits in the top crust for steam to escape.

Place the pie on a foil lined baking sheet. (This will keep your oven clean if some of the hot apple juices spill out of the crust during baking.)

Bake in a 350 degree oven for about an hour or a little longer. The apples will be tender when the pie is done. When the pie is done, carefully remove it from the oven.Wear oven mitts--it will be very hot! Set the baked pie on a cooling rack. Allow the pie to cool at least 15 minutes or more.  Slice. Serve warm with ice cream, if desired.
