T H I N K -- Words are powerful. Your words. My words. Our words. Through strong, uplifting words a person can be raised up. Through careless, thoughtless words, a person can be razed and destroyed.
Raise or Raze? How do your words come across?
A Jewish friend shared the definition of the power of evil speech--lashon hara. She explained that this refers specifically to gossiping about others, whether the information is true or false.
Healthy communication within ourselves and between each other reminds us to seek appropriate words and ideas. Occasionally, random comments can be devastating. It is necessary to weigh every word in conversation and thought. Unkindness directed at ourselves or about others defies integrity.
Think for a moment: What and how do you choose to guide your conversations with others? What about your inner conversation about yourself? Do you speak and think lovingly of yourself?
As we investigate the topic of THINKing before speaking, know that silence and careful listening in a conversation are important. Listening is an art. A good listener leans in and appreciates and recognizes the message within the message.
For the next five weeks, common-woman will focus on THINK before you speak. This is not meant to accuse or cause stress for ANYONE. This effort will be to offer a few ideas for a fresher, kinder way of talking with ourselves and others.
