As the fall weather moves in, reading and telling stories can be fun. So how did you learn your alphabet? Did you sing an “A B C Song”? Did you have a favorite app? Did you listen to an ebook? Maybe you looked at pictures in books? Here are three old pictures from a reader written many years ago.
On a recent weekend road trip to a Kansas park, one of the passengers in the vehicle read aloud a short story. It was an exciting story! While we set up at the camp ground, we decided to read that same story after supper when we gathered around the fire pit.
So, we did.
After a day of fishing, hiking and wading, we ate supper and s’mores. Wrapped in blankets, we again listened to the same story. Next, we talked about the people in the story. This made us think of other stories and our favorite movies. Then, someone suggested we make up stories and tell them around the fire. Story after story, people took turns. Some were funny and some were scary. It was an awesome time. There were so many stars in the night sky when we finally went to bed, ready for a good sleep.
Now, we often take a few books with us on road trips. We try to read one book before we get to our destination.
If you’re not in the mood to read aloud, here are a couple of books with videos:
