As the weather calls for more indoor time, imaginative and inventive play can be lots of fun. David made this marble game from a memory of when he and his brothers were young on the farm in Fairview. A neighbor Mr. Monroe gave the Spangler boys’ dad Lloyd the first marble game in recollection. From there, Lloyd built a new and improved version sometime in the late 1940’s.
This is the latest marble game that David constructed in his hobby shop. He remarked that the current tools used to smooth and shape the game make building much easier.
“The trick is in the angles. You’ve got to get the angles right or the marbles hang up in the corner pockets. For smooth operation, the correct angles offer smooth and consistent travel.”
There’s a lot of practical truth in that statement, “You’ve got to get the angles right.” The angles and paths make all the difference. We can get stuck in dead-end corners or blind alleys in our lives. Common sense, faith, giving grace to others, forgiveness and patience can make so much difference. Loving ourselves involves self-care and the knowledge that each of us is absolutely important on this earth.
“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His love endures forever.
